AS Hornby Educational Trust Scholarship | Eligibility Criteria
- To qualify for the Hornby Scholarship 2025, applicants must fulfill the following criteria:
- Applicants must be residents of, and employed in, a country classified as Least Developed, Low Income, Lower Middle Income, or Upper Middle Income according to the OECD DAC standards.
- A minimum of three years of full-time TESOL teaching or related professional experience following the attainment of the first degree is required.
- Candidates must possess an undergraduate degree (with grades equivalent to UK upper second class honours or higher) or a relevant postgraduate degree.
- It is necessary to first submit a Postgraduate application to the University of Exeter for the MEd TESOL programme in order to obtain an Exeter student number. This number will be provided directly upon receipt of your application. Only after acquiring this number can you proceed to submit your application for the Hornby Scholarship, as it must be included in your submission.
Application Procedures
How to Apply: Prospective applicants for the AS Hornby Educational Trust Scholarship should initially complete the University of Exeter application form for admission to the MEd TESOL programme. After applying and receiving an Exeter student number, you may then fill out the Hornby Scholarship application form.
In the Hornby Scholarship application, you will be required to upload a covering letter of no more than 1,000 words addressing the following three questions:
- Identify a significant challenge that you, along with other English language teachers, commonly encounter in your working environment. Explain how pursuing the MEd TESOL at the University of Exeter would assist you in addressing this challenge. (max. 400 words)
- Provide an example of a situation in which you contributed to the classroom practice or broader professional development of one or more English language teachers in your setting. (max. 400 words)
- Describe how your expertise, abilities, and background qualify you as an ideal candidate for the Hornby Scholarship. (maximum 200 words)
