
The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially announced the commencement of registration for the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External, also known as GCE. This year’s examination will be conducted as a Computer-Based Examination (CBE) in 16 approved subjects.
Prospective candidates can register both online and offline, and the process is now active on the official NECO portal.
How to Register for NECO GCE 2025
Step-by-Step Registration Process
- Visit the NECO official website via www.neco.gov.ng and click on the SSCE External link.
- Create an account using a valid email or phone number.
- Purchase a registration quota.
- Proceed to a reputable cybercafé for biometric fingerprint capture and to complete registration.
- Upload a passport-size photograph (not older than six months, with a white background). Alternatively, a system camera at the registration point may be used.
NIN is Mandatory
Candidates must provide a valid National Identification Number (NIN). Registration will not be successful without a properly entered NIN.
Biometric Verification is Compulsory
Biometric fingerprints will be captured during offline registration. There will also be biometric verification during the exam. Any mismatch during verification will be treated as impersonation and penalized accordingly.
Registration Fees and Payment Options
Standard Registration Fee
- ₦30,000 only. This fee includes:
- Four-figure Mathematical Table
- Waterproof Certificate Jacket/Folder
- Note: Stamp Duty, Service Charges, and Remita fees apply.
Late and Walk-in Registration
- Late Registration (Nov 19–25, 2025): Additional ₦5,000
- Walk-in Registration: ₦43,000 (At least 3 hours before the paper)

Registration and Examination Dates
- Registration Period: July 7 – November 18, 2025 (by 12:00 midnight)
- Late Registration: November 19 – 25, 2025
- Examination Period: Wednesday, November 26 – Saturday, December 13, 2025
After Registration: What You Must Collect
Upon completing registration, candidates must obtain:
- Official NECO Exam Timetable
- NECO Photocard – Used for exam hall admission
Note: Photocards with unclear photographs will not be accepted. Make sure your image is sharp and meets requirements.
Photo Card Attestation Requirements
The referee section must be signed and stamped by one of the following:
- Principal of a recognized secondary school
- Ordained clergy or Chief Imam
- Commissioned Armed Forces/Police officer (minimum rank: Captain or equivalent)
- Senior civil servant (not below GL 14)
- Legal practitioner with at least 10 years of experience
No need to submit Photocards to NECO State Offices for stamping.
Special Needs Candidates
Candidates with disabilities should register like everyone else. However, they must clearly indicate the nature of their condition in the bio-data section during online registration.

NECO has grouped centres into neighborhoods within each state. Candidates must choose a neighborhood during registration and will be assigned a center accordingly.

Mock Exam and Other Guidelines
A mock examination may be scheduled before the main exams. NECO will announce the date in due course.
Important General Information
- Non-refundable fees: Once paid, the registration fee is not refundable.
- One-time correction: Candidates can only edit their details once before the exam. Complete name changes are not allowed.
- Photo and NIN: The uploaded photo and NIN will appear on the final certificate.
- No editing of exam centers after upload.
- Reputable cybercafes are advised to avoid errors.
- Multiple registrations will result in result cancellation.
Exam Hall Conduct
- No programmable calculators, phones, smart devices, or weapons allowed
- Candidates must dress in mufti
- Be seated 30 minutes before each paper begins
- No entry after the exam has started
