Nigeria’s newly appointed JAMB Registrar, Professor Segun Aina, has declared that protecting the integrity of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) will be his administration’s highest priority
Speaking during the official handover ceremony at the Board’s National Headquarters in Bwari, Abuja, Aina outlined an ambitious vision focused on transparency, fairness, innovation and improved service delivery He also vowed to wage a relentless battle against examination malpractice and admission fraud
The new registrar said every deserving Nigerian student must have equal access to higher education through a credible admission process, stressing that public trust remains the foundation of JAMB’s success
Segun Aina Makes Integrity His Top Priority
Professor Aina emphasized that integrity is the backbone of every credible institution, noting that technological advancement and operational efficiency become meaningless without transparency and accountability
According to him, the confidence Nigerians place in JAMB depends on the Board’s ability to maintain fairness in every examination and admission exercise
He explained that his administration would remain committed to making decisions based on honesty, professionalism and public interest
“We shall protect the integrity of JAMB with everything the law permits,” Aina declared during his inaugural address
He added that trust is built through consistent actions rather than speeches, promising not to compromise the standards that have strengthened the examination body over the years
New Registrar Declares War on Examination Malpractice
Aina also sent a strong warning to examination malpractice syndicates, impersonators, certificate forgers, cybercriminals and corrupt officials attempting to undermine Nigeria’s admission system
He disclosed that JAMB would intensify investigations and prosecutions through improved technology, intelligence gathering and stronger internal monitoring mechanisms
The registrar explained that preserving the credibility of examinations goes beyond enforcing regulations it also protects the future of hardworking candidates who genuinely earn admission
Stronger Collaboration with Security Agencies
To combat increasingly sophisticated examination fraud, Aina revealed that JAMB would strengthen partnerships with security agencies and other stakeholders
He said the Board would also adopt global best practices to secure its digital systems and ensure admission processes remain transparent and free from manipulation
According to him, every fraudulent admission denies a qualified candidate an opportunity they rightfully deserve
JAMB to Improve Candidate Experience and Service Delivery
Beyond protecting examination integrity, the new registrar promised significant improvements in JAMB’s service delivery
He said the Board plans to simplify registration procedures, improve communication with candidates and parents, and deploy more technology to make its services faster and more efficient
Aina noted that students should experience confidence rather than frustration whenever they interact with JAMB, whether during registration, examinations or admission processing
His vision, he said, is to build a more accessible, transparent and citizen focused institution
Appreciation to Tinubu and Education Stakeholders
Professor Aina expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading one of Nigeria’s most important educational institutions
He also appreciated the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, pledging to work closely with the Federal Ministry of Education to implement reforms that will strengthen Nigeria’s education sector
Pays Tribute to Former JAMB Leaders
During the ceremony, Aina acknowledged the contributions of former JAMB registrars whose leadership helped shape the institution
He paid tribute to pioneer Registrar Michael Saidu Angulu, Mohammed Abubakar, Bello Salim, Dibu Ojerinde and his immediate predecessor, Professor Ishaq Oloyede
The new registrar particularly commended Oloyede for introducing reforms that strengthened public confidence in JAMB and enhanced its operational efficiency
According to Aina, the seamless leadership transition demonstrates the Board’s culture of professionalism and institutional continuity
A Full Circle Moment for the New Registrar
Reflecting on his appointment, Aina described the moment as deeply personal
He recalled serving at JAMB as a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member nearly two decades ago and said returning to lead the institution represents a remarkable full circle journey
He pledged to build on the Board’s achievements while preparing it to meet future challenges in Nigeria’s rapidly evolving education sector
