The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced that NERD clearance is now a compulsory requirement for all prospective corps members preparing for the 2026 Batch B mobilization exercise
The scheme warned that graduates who fail to obtain clearance through the National Electronic Registration Database (NERD) will not be mobilized for the mandatory one year national service The announcement comes as NYSC intensifies preparations for the upcoming service year and introduces stricter verification measures to improve the credibility of the mobilization process
The latest directive also aligns with the agency’s ongoing efforts to enhance transparency, eliminate irregularities, and ensure only eligible graduates participate in the national service program
NYSC Declares NERD Clearance Compulsory
The NYSC made the announcement in a public notice shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday
According to the scheme, every prospective corps member must complete the National Electronic Registration Database (NERD) clearance before they can be considered for mobilization
The agency issued a clear warning that failure to obtain the required clearance will automatically prevent eligible graduates from participating in the 2026 Batch B national service
The notice stated:
- “This is to inform PCMs (Prospective Corps Members) that without NERD clearance, no NYSC. Get your NERD clearance early Avoid delays in your mobilization”
It further emphasized:
- “NERD clearance is compulsory for all PCMs. No NERD clearance, No NYSC!!!”
What Is NERD Clearance?
Although NYSC did not provide a detailed explanation of the clearance process, the National Electronic Registration Database (NERD) is expected to strengthen the verification of graduates before mobilization
The new requirement is designed to improve the integrity of NYSC records by ensuring that only properly verified graduates are deployed for national service

- NYSC also recommended spending the night in safe locations, including designated military or security formations, rather than continuing long distance trips after dark
