YABATECH HND1 Issues New Attendance Rule

The management of Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) has released a strict and urgent notice affecting all Higher National Diploma (HND I) students for the 2025/2026 academic session The new directive focuses on registration completion, student verification, and attendance enforcement across all departments.

According to an internal memorandum issued by the Deputy Rector (Academics), the institution is concerned about the number of students who are yet to complete their registration process As a result, new attendance rules have been introduced to ensure proper academic records and accountability.

The policy introduces a major shift in how student participation is recorded, with immediate effect across all schools in the college.

YABATECH Introduces “No Matric Number, No Attendance” Policy

The college has officially mandated that only students with valid matriculation numbers will be allowed to participate in lecture attendance records.

Temporary YCT Numbers Now Invalid

Under the new directive:

  • “YCT Numbers” previously used as temporary identification are no longer accepted
  • Only official matriculation numbers will now be recognized for attendance
  • Any attendance recorded using temporary numbers will be cancelled
  • This move is aimed at strengthening academic integrity and ensuring that only fully registered students are captured in the system.

Strict Enforcement Across All Faculties

The directive applies to all academic units within the institution, covering:

  • School of Technology
  • School of Engineering
  • School of Management & Business Studies
  • School of Science
  • School of Environmental Studies
  • School of Arts, Design & Printing
  • School of Liberal Studies
  • School of Agriculture

Deans of Schools have been instructed to ensure strict compliance by all Heads of Departments and lecturers.

What HND1 Students Must Do Immediately

The management has urged all affected HND I students to complete their registration without delay in order to avoid academic setbacks.

Failure to comply may lead to serious consequences such as:

  • Ineligibility for semester examinations
  • Failure to meet required attendance percentage
  • Being flagged as inactive or withdrawn from the academic system
  • Students are strongly advised to visit the Admissions Office or ICT Centre to resolve any pending registration issues immediately.

YABATECH Pushes for Digital Academic Accountability

The institution emphasized that the policy is part of its ongoing effort to strengthen digital records and improve academic transparency By enforcing proper registration before lecture participation, the school aims to ensure that all students are properly documented in the central database.
