The week long celebration is designed to honour the institution’s legacy of academic excellence, innovation, and cultural impact as one of Nigeria’s most prestigious universities. From academic exhibitions to cultural showcases and thanksgiving services, the event promises a rich blend of learning, tradition, and celebration

According to the anniversary committee chaired by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Professor G. A. Aderounmu, the celebration will begin with a press conference led by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire, setting the tone for a historic week of activities

OAU 65th Anniversary Begins With Press Conference and Official Opening

The celebration officially kicks off on Monday, June 1, 2026, with a press conference at Floor O, Room 5 by 10:00 a.m

This opening event will feature remarks from the Vice Chancellor, highlighting the university’s achievements, milestones, and vision for the future It will also set the tone for the week long festivities involving staff, students, alumni, and the general public

Sports, Innovation, and Cultural Celebrations Take Centre Stage

Sports Day and “Walk for Life”

On Tuesday, June 2, participants will engage in a Sports Day event tagged “Walk for Life” starting at 7:00 a.m. at the Meeting Point Motion Ground The activity is expected to promote fitness, unity, and community bonding

Research, Innovation, and Exhibitions

On Wednesday, June 3, attention shifts to academic excellence as researchers and innovators showcase their works at Oduduwa Hall from 10:00 a.m. This segment highlights OAU’s contribution to research and national development

Cultural Day Celebration

Thursday, June 4 will feature Cultural Day at Oduduwa Hall, where staff and students are expected to appear in indigenous attire.This colourful event celebrates Nigeria’s rich cultural diversity and unity

Religious Services and Alumni Engagement Mark Midweek Activities

Friday, June 5 will host a Jumu’ah service at OAU Central Mosque at 1:00 p.m., bringing together the Muslim community in prayer and reflection

On Saturday, June 6, an Alumni Programme will hold online at 2:00 p.m., connecting former students across the globe to celebrate their shared heritage and contributions to the university’s growth

Sunday, June 7 will feature a Thanksgiving Service at All Souls Chapel at 10:00 a.m., giving thanks for 65 years of academic excellence and institutional impact

Grand Finale Set for Monday, June 8

The celebration will climax on Monday, June 8 with a Grand Anniversary Celebration at Oduduwa Hall by 11:00 a.m
