The NBTE Hausa technical manuals initiative has received national recognition after the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) applauded Katsina State for introducing Nigeria’s first Hausa translated technical training manuals The development is expected to improve access to technical and vocational education, particularly for learners in rural communities
The Executive Secretary of NBTE, Prof. Idris Muhammed Bugaje, also praised Governor Dikko Umaru Radda’s commitment to technical education, revealing that the state has invested more than ₦5 billion in the Katsina Youth Craft Village According to him, the investment has transformed the institution into one of Nigeria’s leading centres for vocational skills development
The recognition highlights Katsina State’s growing role in promoting inclusive education and equipping young people with practical skills needed for employment and entrepreneurship
NBTE Praises Katsina’s Hausa Technical Training Manuals
Speaking during a courtesy visit by officials of the Katsina Youth Craft Village to the NBTE headquarters in Kaduna, Prof. Idris Muhammed Bugaje said translating technical learning materials into indigenous languages would make vocational education easier to understand for thousands of Nigerians
He noted that the initiative represents a significant step toward making technical education more inclusive and accessible
Governor Radda’s ₦5 Billion Investment Earns National Recognition
Prof. Bugaje commended Governor Dikko Umaru Radda for committing over ₦5 billion to the development of the Katsina Youth Craft Village
According to the NBTE Executive Secretary, the administration’s strong support has revitalized the institution and positioned Katsina among Nigeria’s leading states in technical and vocational education
He noted that while progress may have slowed in previous years, the renewed investment has provided the infrastructure, funding and policy support needed to achieve remarkable results
Katsina Youth Craft Village Expands Skills Training
Leading the delegation, the State Coordinator of the Katsina Youth Craft Village, Engr. Kabir Abdullahi Kofar Soro, explained that the centers currently provides practical training in 14 different trade programs
He said the Hausa translations were introduced to remove language barriers that often prevent many rural residents from benefiting from technical education
According to him, making learning materials available in Hausa will help more young people understand technical concepts and acquire employable skills
Rural Communities Expected to Benefit Most
Engr. Kofar Soro explained that many residents of rural communities struggle with technical learning because instructional materials are often available only in English
He said translating the manuals into Hausa would bridge this gap, allowing more learners to participate confidently in vocational training and improve their chances of securing employment or starting businesses
Indigenous Languages Seen as Key to Technology Growth
Officials behind the project said the initiative was inspired by countries such as China, where education and technological advancement have been driven largely through indigenous languages
They believe adopting a similar approach in Nigeria can accelerate knowledge transfer, improve learning outcomes and encourage wider participation in technical education
Education experts have also argued that teaching practical skills in familiar languages enables learners to grasp complex concepts more quickly and apply them effectively in real life situations
