The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND beneficiaries) has reached a major milestone, with over one million students now benefiting from the federal intervention scheme aimed at improving access to higher education in Nigeria The Federal Government says the initiative continues to reduce financial barriers for indigent students across the country

NELFUND Hits One Million Beneficiaries in Landmark Achievement

The Federal Government confirmed that over one million students have now benefitted from the NELFUND scheme since its launch Officials say the intervention has already cost more than N1.1 billion, reflecting the scale of investment in education support

In addition, over 160,000 young Nigerians have been trained in digital skills, strengthening the country’s push toward a more technology driven economy

Alausa Highlights Tinubu’s Education Reforms

Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, praised President Bola Tinubu for prioritising reforms in education, especially in science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM), and vocational training.

He noted that the government is focusing on digitalization and technical education to prepare Nigerian youths for future job markets

Alausa also commended Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, for supporting education through free education policies, payment of examination fees, and the establishment of accredited state universities

Kogi State Commended for Education Investment

During the inauguration of two Model Science Secondary Schools in Kogi State, Alausa described the projects as a reflection of visionary leadership

He further applauded the state for allocating over 30% of its annual budget to education, exceeding UNESCO’s recommended benchmark of 26%

Traditional rulers, including the Ohinoyi of Ebira land, also praised the state government for improving school infrastructure and learning conditions

FUTI VC Confirms NELFUND’s Impact on Students

The Acting Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Ilaro, Dr Mikhail Akinde, confirmed that NELFUND has significantly reduced dropout risks among students facing financial challenges

He revealed that the institution alone benefited about N32 million, supporting over 200 students

According to him, many students who would have missed examinations were able to complete their academic activities due to the loan intervention

University Showcases Innovation and Technical Breakthroughs

At a media engagement and exhibition ahead of its 23rd convocation, FUTI showcased several innovative projects developed by students and researchers

These include solar powered tricycles, palm oil digesters, pet bottle shredders, maize dehuskers, defeathering machines, and incubators designed for mass production and job creation

The VC emphasized that such innovations aim to reduce import dependence and boost Nigeria’s industrial growth

Call for Investment and National Collaboration

Dr Akinde called on investors to partner with the institution to scale up innovations and create wealth for the nation

He also highlighted plans to honor prominent national figures during the upcoming convocation ceremony, including governors and traditional rulers who have contributed to national development
