Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has announced plans to transform its Pre Science Centre located in Mbaukwu into a fully functional mini campus The major development was disclosed by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Anyaehie, during a courtesy visit to the traditional ruler of Mbaukwu community
The upgrade is expected to significantly boost student population, infrastructure development, and educational activities within the community According to the university management, the expansion project will also accommodate new students for the Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) programme beginning from September 2026
The announcement has generated excitement among residents and education stakeholders, with many describing it as a major milestone in the growth and expansion of UNIZIK
UNIZIK Set To Transform Pre Science Centre Into Mini Campus
Vice Chancellor Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Anyaehie revealed that the university has already commenced work aimed at upgrading the Mbaukwu study centre into a mini campus structure with improved facilities and expanded academic activities
According to him, the development will create a more conducive learning environment for students while strengthening the institution’s academic presence outside the main campus
The Vice Chancellor noted that the new JUPEB intakes expected in September will add over 2,000 students to the centre, making the expansion project necessary and urgent
He described Mbaukwu as a peaceful and progressive community blessed with visionary leadership and a supportive traditional institution
University Calls For Stronger Partnership With Host Community
Prof. Anyaehie stressed the need for deeper collaboration between UNIZIK and the Mbaukwu community, especially in areas such as hostel accommodation, security, and social services
He explained that the ongoing development would place Mbaukwu on the global map as an emerging educational hub and a strategic mini campus for Nnamdi Azikiwe University
The Vice Chancellor also expressed optimism that the partnership between the institution and the host community would create long term economic and social benefits for residents

The traditional ruler of Mbaukwu, Igwe Peter Anugwu, expressed joy and gratitude over the university’s decision to expand the study centre
The monarch described the development as one of the greatest moments of his reign, stating that witnessing the transformation of the campus into a world class educational centre would be a dream come true
Igwe Anugwu also assured the university management of the community’s full support in preserving and protecting the institution and its future prospects within Mbaukwu
