The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced an extension of the 2026 Direct Entry (DE) registration deadline, giving thousands of candidates across Nigeria more time to apply The new deadline is now set for May 8, 2026
This move comes as part of JAMB’s effort to ensure that no eligible candidate misses the opportunity to secure admission into tertiary institutions With growing demand and increased pressure on registration centres, the board is also rolling out additional measures to make the process smoother and more accessible
Why JAMB Extended the 2026 Direct Entry Registration
JAMB revealed that the extension is aimed at widening access to higher education and accommodating more applicants who are yet to complete their registration
According to the board, many candidates experienced challenges ranging from limited access to registration centres to technical delays By pushing the deadline forward, JAMB hopes to eliminate these barriers and allow more students to participate in the admission process
The extension reflects the board’s broader commitment to inclusivity and equal opportunity in Nigeria’s education system
New Registration Centres Added Nationwide
To further ease congestion and improve the registration experience, JAMB has approved additional registration centres across key locations in the country
Newly Approved Centres Include:
- Centre for Open and Distance Learning (CODL), University of Ilorin, Kwara
- Bells University of Technology, Ota, Ogun State
- Olabisi Onabanjo University Centre 1, Ago Iwoye, Ogun State
- Prof. Usman E Learning Centre, Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo
- Human Development Initiatives (Grace House), Lagos
These centres are expected to begin operations from April 30, 2026, helping to reduce overcrowding in high demand areas
Existing JAMB Centres Still Fully Operational
JAMB also reassured candidates that all Professional Registration Centres (PRCs) and Professional Testing Centres (PTCs) nationwide remain open and fully functional
Candidates are advised to take advantage of these centres and complete their registration early to avoid last minute rush and possible delays
What Candidates Should Do Before the Deadline
With the new May 8 deadline in place, prospective Direct Entry applicants are encouraged to act fast and prepare all necessary documents
Ensure that your academic qualifications are ready, verify your personal details, and visit any accredited centre for a smooth registration process Early registration remains the best strategy to avoid unnecessary stress
