Seven exceptional Nigerian undergraduates are set to receive N5 million each under the maiden JAMB Academic Excellence Recognition Award, an initiative launched in partnership with Rite Foods Limited to celebrate outstanding academic achievement

The award recognises students who recorded remarkable performances during the 2025 admission exercise, excelling in both the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and their universities’ admission screening processes The initiative reinforces the importance of rewarding hard work while inspiring millions of students to pursue academic excellence

Seven Nigerian Undergraduates to Receive N5 Million Each

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) announced that seven outstanding undergraduates will each receive N5 million during the maiden Academic Excellence Recognition Award ceremony scheduled for Tuesday, June 30, 2026, in Lagos

The beneficiaries emerged through a transparent, merit based selection process after JAMB assessed candidates’ performances throughout the 2025 admission exercise

According to the examination body, the award honours students who demonstrated exceptional academic excellence from the UTME stage through their universities’ post UTME or admission screening exercises

Winners Represent Nigeria’s Six Geopolitical Zones

To ensure nationwide representation, JAMB selected one outstanding undergraduate from each of Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones

In addition, a special recognition award will be presented to the highest performing admitted candidate living with a disability

The University of Lagos produced two recipients, including the beneficiary of the disability recognition category

Other universities represented among the awardees include:

  • University of Uyo (Sout South)
  • Federal University of Technology, Owerri (South East)
  • Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia (North West)
  • University of Maiduguri (North East)
  • Federal University of Technology, Minna (North Central)

The selection reflects JAMB’s commitment to promoting academic excellence regardless of geographical location

JAMB and Rite Foods Encourage Academic Excellence

JAMB explained that the Academic Excellence Recognition Award was introduced in collaboration with Rite Foods Limited to encourage a culture of excellence among Nigerian students

Beyond rewarding academic achievement, the initiative aims to motivate future UTME candidates to remain committed to hard work, discipline, and outstanding academic performance

Education stakeholders believe programes like this can help build healthy academic competition while encouraging students to pursue excellence throughout their educational journey

Top Education Leaders to Attend Award Ceremony

The inaugural award ceremony is expected to attract more than 300 distinguished guests from the education sector, government agencies, academia, and the private sector

Among those expected to attend are the Minister of Education, JAMB Registrar Professor Is haq Oloyede, vice chancellors of the winning universities, and heads of key education regulatory bodies, including the National Universities Commission (NUC) National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), and the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE)

Their participation highlights the growing importance of recognising academic excellence as a key driver of quality higher education in Nigeria
