FCET Provost urges Students on Technical Skills Acquisition

Dr. Tessy Okoli, provost of the Federal College of Education (Technical) Umunze in Anambra State, has emphasized the importance of students in tertiary institutions developing employable skills.

After graduation, she claimed that having technical skills would help students start their own businesses and lower the nation’s youth unemployment rate.

This was said by Okoli at the college’s most recent matriculation ceremony at the Convocation Arena.

She suggested that the new students take advantage of the entrepreneurship and vocational programs provided by the school for their own personal growth, noting that the college places a high value on technical and vocational skills as well as ICT to give students employable skills that would make them relevant in today’s society.

According to the provost, Nigeria needs a fresh cadre of ICT entrepreneurs and specialists to spearhead important innovation and development in vital industries.

Okoli, who also serves as the national president of the Association of Women in Colleges of Education in Nigeria, revealed that Nweke Kenechukwu, a student at the college, had earned a certification as a Google ambassador after successfully completing the global training program. She expressed her happiness that more college students were continuing to pave the way in the ICT industry as content producers, programmers, and computer software engineers.

She disapproved of the rising incidence of academic fraud among students in postsecondary institutions and cautioned them against such vices.
