The M.A. Film Culture and Archiving Studies entrance form at the University of Jos (UNIJOS) is currently available for purchase. Check out the application process below.A 24-month master’s program in film culture and archiving studies is being offered in the department of theater and film arts by the University of Jos School of Postgraduate Studies (UNIJOS), in partnership with the National Film Institute (NFI) via the Nigerian Film Corporation and German Institutions. The programme addresses the various areas of philosophy and practice of Film Culture including the scientific basis for Film Archiving.

Regarding Film Culture and Film Archiving at UNIJOS MA:

This is a project for knowledge transfer between Nigerian and German institutions. Within the framework of the TNB (Transnationale Bildung) program, the German institutions are represented by Goethe Universität, Deutsches Filminstitut & Filmmuseum, and Arsenal Institut für Film und Videokunst Berlin; the Nigerian institutions involved are the University of Jos and the Nigerian Film Corporation/National Film Institute, Jos. “This programme is the first of its kind in Africa and one about a dozen worldwide” claims Goethe university. The Jos program’s objectives are to:

  • Educate scientific staff for media and film archives
  • Develop the ability of African film culture institutions
  • To preserve Nigeria’s and Africa’s audiovisual legacy.
  • Increased employment opportunities In Germany, more than 90% of students who completed this course have found employment. Nigeria is able to duplicate this.

The Nigerian Film Corporation, working with NFI, will handle the practical components of the training while the University of Jos and Goethe University will handle the theoretical instruction.

Nonetheless, the University of Jos will grant the degree in accordance with the National Film Institute’s current relationship with the university. It is anticipated to start in February 2024.


Target Audience:

Students from Nigeria and other countries who are interested in pursuing careers in cinema culture and archival studies are the target audience for this course. Given the expanding film business in Nigeria and throughout Africa, there is a great need for this kind of knowledge.

Acceptance/Qualifications:

The following qualifications will make a student eligible for the MA in Film Culture and Archival Studies program:

  1. A bachelor’s degree from the National Film Institute, University of Jos, or any other accredited university accepted by the University of Jos Senate, in theater and film arts, or BA or B.Sc.
  2. B.Sc., BA, or HND in Natural Sciences, Arts/Humanities, Social Sciences, or Mass Communication
  3. A minimum of second – class lower division (2.2) degree or Higher National Diploma (lower credit) with a grade point average (CGPA) of not less than 2.40. Candidates with a third class degree or an HND (below Lower credit) may be admitted, according to the University of Jos Postgraduate admission guidelines. Furthermore, if the applicant is a practitioner with a background in film and a minimum of five years of post-graduation experience, a Postgraduate Diploma in Film Related Courses is necessary.
  4. Those who meet the requirements but do not have experience in theater or film will be required to take preparatory undergraduate courses.
  5. Basic O’level results with a credit in English language are one of the requirements for entrance.

Application Process for the MA in Film Culture and Film Archiving

All prospective applicants must complete the following in order to obtain the online application form: Make an Account

  1. Go to portal.unijos.edu.ng/.
  2. Select the FORMS APPLICATION option.
  3. Select the Masters Program option.
  4. Complete the Account Registration Form and click Register. An email with an account activation link is delivered to the specified email address. To activate your account and open the log-in page, log in to the email and click the link. or Cover the Application Form Fee
  5. Go to www.unijos.edu.ng.
  6. Select LOGIN.
  7. Type in the password and email used to register for an account.
  8. Select Login to open a customized dashboard.
  9. Select Pay Application Fees after selecting Application Charge.
  10. A window with the payment information will show up.)
  11. Select the payment option.
  12. Choose your preferred method of payment (a bank branch, a card, etc.) and enter the necessary information.
  13. Continue as instructed until the payment is processed successfully.
  14. After the payment is successful, print the receipt. Print the additional copy of the receipt that was mailed to you as well. Complete the Application.
  15. go to the Unijos.edu.ng site.
  16. Select LOGIN.
  17. Enter your password and email address, then
  18. To access your customized dashboard, click Login.
  19. Select “My Profile.”
  20. Complete the online application form by clicking on Add/Edit Bio-Data. (Make sure you fill in all the fields on each tab, including bio-data, results, sponsor, next of kin, and uploads of your passport and signature.)
  21. After all tabs have been fully filled out, click Submit; a form will then be prepared for you. Print this page and save it for later use.

NOTE:

a. You should only use working phone numbers and legitimate email addresses. All future communications will be sent to the specified phone number and email address.

b. Electronic forms for referees are sent. As a result, you must give referees your current, working phone number and email address. Please take note that the referee form will immediately be sent to the appropriate department once it has been correctly completed.

c. After completing the application form, changes made to personal information may be subject to a cost. As a result, make sure the online form is filled out accurately and thoroughly.

Before February 7th, 2024, completed application forms and an application letter including the applicant’s phone number and email address must be sent back to the institute.

Applications will not be processed if they do not contain the necessary materials. Shortlisted applicants will be contacted on 21st – February, 2024 by text messages and emails.
