UNILAG Students Win ₦10 Million Scholarship

Two outstanding University of Lagos (UNILAG) students have received a major financial boost after emerging as winners of the prestigious Rite Foods Academic Excellence Scholarship for the 2025/2026 academic session The scholarship, valued at ₦10 million, recognizes exceptional academic performance and rewards students who have demonstrated excellence from secondary school through university admission

The beneficiaries, Mr. Okeke Chinedu Christian and Miss Tijesunimi Ogunsua Dixon, were officially honored during a courtesy visit by representatives of Rite Foods Limited to the University of Lagos Senate House The initiative is part of a nationwide scholarship program aimed at supporting brilliant students across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones

The award goes beyond financial assistance, offering recipients valuable mentorship and internship opportunities designed to prepare them for successful careers while encouraging a culture of academic excellence among Nigerian students

UNILAG Students Receive ₦10 Million Rite Foods Scholarship

The University of Lagos celebrated another academic milestone as two of its newly admitted students emerged among the first beneficiaries of the Rite Foods Academic Excellence Award for Best Matriculants

The scholarship recipients were formally presented to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Folasade Tolulope Ogunsola, OON, FAS, during a courtesy visit by officials of Rite Foods Limited on Monday, July 20, 2026

The delegation was led by the Dean of Students’ Affairs, Professor Olumuyiwa Johnson Agunsoye, alongside representatives of the company

Meet the Scholarship Beneficiaries

The scholarship winners are:

Mr. Okeke Chinedu Christian

Mr. Okeke Chinedu Christian, a 100 level Mechanical Engineering student, emerged as the overall best matriculant for Nigeria’s South West geopolitical zone

His exceptional academic record across WASSCE, UTME, and Post UTME earned him one of the highly competitive awards

Miss Tijesunimi Ogunsua Dixon

Miss Tijesunimi Ogunsua Dixon, a 100 level Mass Communication student, also secured a place among the beneficiaries of the scholarship program

Together, both students received scholarships worth ₦10 million, with each beneficiary awarded ₦5 million

Rite Foods Explains Purpose of the Scholarship

Speaking during the presentation, Mr. Dennis Aideloje, Corporate Affairs and Sales Manager of Rite Foods Limited, explained that the scholarship was established in partnership with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB)

According to him, the initiative aims to reward exceptional academic achievement while motivating young Nigerians to remain committed to excellence

He noted that beneficiaries were selected after evaluating their performances in:

  • WASSCE
  • UTME
  • Post UTME screening examinations

In addition to financial support, successful students will benefit from structured mentorship and internship opportunities that will help them develop valuable professional skills

UNILAG Vice Chancellor Commends Rite Foods

Reacting to the scholarship award, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Professor Folasade Tolulope Ogunsola, praised Rite Foods for investing in Nigeria’s educational sector
