The Federal University Oye Ekiti (FUOYE) has strongly denied viral social media reports claiming the institution was shut down due to repeated bandit attacks The university described the reports as false, misleading, and aimed at causing unnecessary panic among students and parents
The controversy erupted after a post circulated on X (formerly Twitter), alleging that students had been instructed to stay away from campus because of insecurity However, the university management quickly reacted, insisting that academic activities are ongoing peacefully and that there has never been any bandit attack within the institution
FUOYE authorities also urged members of the public to disregard the viral claim, emphasizing that the campus remains safe and secure for learning
FUOYE Dismisses Viral Shutdown Report
The management of FUOYE clarified that the university has not been shut down and that normal academic activities are continuing across the campus
The statement was signed by the Director of Public Affairs and Communication, Dr. Sunday Saanu, who reassured students, parents, and guardians that there was no security threat within the university environment
Viral X Post Triggered Public Panic
The false report reportedly originated from a viral X post shared by a user identified as FS Yusuf through the handle @FS Yusuff
The post claimed that:
“FUOYE is shutting down as students are told to stay home due to continuous bandits attack.”
The statement quickly gained attention online, sparking concern among students and families over the safety of the institution
However, FUOYE management insisted that the information was entirely false and lacked any factual basis
FUOYE Says Campus Remains Safe
Reacting to the growing rumours, Dr. Saanu stressed that no incident involving bandits had ever occurred within the university
He described the claims as “baseless and fictitious,” accusing some social media users of spreading fake news purely to gain online traffic and financial engagement
According to the university spokesperson, the institution remains peaceful, secure, and fully operational
The management also condemned the spread of panic-inducing information, warning against the dangers of misinformation in the digital age
Students and Parents Advised to Ignore Fake News
FUOYE urged students, parents, and members of the public not to panic over unverified social media reports
The institution further encouraged the public to rely only on official university communication channels for authentic updates concerning campus safety and academic operations
