FUTA VC cautions new students against internet fraud

Newly admitted students have been urged to uphold the law and adhere to established rules and regulations in order to avoid endangering their enrollment in various undergraduate and postgraduate programs at the Federal University of Technology Akure(FUTA). On Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at the combined matriculation ceremony for postgraduate and undergraduate students for the 2022/2023 academic session, Vice Chancellor Professor Adenike Oladiji reminded the students to use caution when using the internet.

The Vice Chancellor reiterated that management has zero tolerance for any behavior that is detrimental to the development of the university and advised the students to abstain from vices and the pernicious use of the internet, such as cyberbullying, phishing, and plagiarism. “I would suggest that you seek out appropriate guidance and make good use of the internet. The Vice Chancellor issued a warning that management would not hesitate to take swift action against any student engaged in any activities that could damage the university’s reputation.

Professor Oladiji urged the matriculating students, especially the undergraduate students, to heed the wise advice given to them, particularly the rules governing students’ activities as contained in the students’ handbook. She cautioned the graduate students to take research seriously because “the quality of research work determines to a large extent the rating of any University.”

The Vice Chancellor described FUTA as a research-intensive university with a very rich resource pool, well-equipped laboratories, and a focus on cutting-edge science and technology research when introducing the university to the new students. The university enjoys fruitful academic ties and collaborations with reputable domestic and international institutions of higher learning, which has raised the university’s standing and reputation among other universities around the world. The environment at FUTA is ideal for anyone with a passion for learning and can help them build a strong foundation for great success.

She urged the students, whom she referred to as crucial stakeholders, to work with management to achieve the vision of FUTA becoming a world-class technological university and a Center of Excellence in training, research, and service delivery.

Principal Officers of the university, Deans of Schools, School officers, and parents of the matriculating students attended the ceremony. In accordance with the custom of formal enrollment into higher education institutions, the Registrar, Mr. Charles Adeleye, administered the matriculation oath to the 4215 undergraduate and 985 postgraduate students.
