The National Youth Service Corps has announced a major change to its mobilisation process that will affect all prospective corps members starting from the 2026 Batch B Stream 1 orientation exercise
Under the new directive, every prospective corps member will now be required to present a compliance certificate from the Nigeria Education Repository and Databank before they can participate in the NYSC mobilisation process
The development is part of the Federal Government’s renewed effort to tackle certificate fraud, improve transparency in the education sector, and ensure that only qualified Nigerian graduates are deployed for national service
NYSC Announces Mandatory NERD Compliance Certificate
The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, Olakunle Nafiu, made the announcement during the 2026 Batch B pre mobilisation workshop held in Abuja
Speaking at the event themed “Strengthening Institutional Accountability and Compliance in the NYSC Mobilization Process,” Nafiu explained that the policy would officially take effect from the 2026 Batch B Stream 1 Orientation Course
According to him, all prospective corps members must obtain a compliance certificate issued through the Nigeria Education Repository and Databank as part of their clearance documents before mobilisation
Why NYSC Introduced the New Requirement
The NYSC leadership said the new measure is aimed at strengthening accountability within the mobilisation system and eliminating fake academic credentials
Over the years, concerns have continued to grow over the use of forged certificates and questionable academic records during NYSC mobilisation The new verification process is expected to help authorities confirm the authenticity of graduates before they are allowed to serve
The NYSC DG stated that the move aligns with the directive of the Federal Executive Council and represents a major step towards sanitising the mobilisation process nationwide
What Prospective Corps Members Should Know
Graduates preparing for the 2026 Batch B mobilisation are advised to begin making inquiries about the compliance certificate process early to avoid last minute issues
Institutions across Nigeria are also expected to work closely with the relevant authorities to ensure accurate uploading and verification of students’ academic records
The new development means that prospective corps members without valid compliance certification may face delays or disqualification from mobilisation
